Wright thinks Man Utd man was wrong MOTM choice v Norwich

Arsenal legend Ian Wright thinks Tim Krul was more deserving of the man of the match award than Harry Maguire in Norwich’s extra time loss to Man Utd in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Man Utd had to dig deep against the Premier League’s bottom side as Odion Ighalo’s fifth goal in four starts for the club was cancelled out by Todd Cantwell’s strike from distance.

Timm Klose was sent off in the 89th minute for bringing down Ighalo, after which United found stubborn resistance from Krul during extra-time, but the Norwich goalkeeper was beaten when Maguire reacted quickest to direct home in the 118th minute.

“I thought Tim Krul would have been man of the match,” Wright said on the BBC.

“The way they defended, they were resolute. They did everything they could in the end, but obviously [Maguire] scored the goal. I have the say the United team with the form they’re in, they were rightly favourites. But I thought Norwich were so unlucky in the end.”

On Krul’s brilliant save from a Maguire chance just before the equaliser, Wright added: “It was a very good save and he made a couple of saves before. Losing teams sometimes don’t get [man of the match], but that game is well and truly finished without Tim Krul today.

“I thought he played very well. Looked like he was looking forward to penalties as well, he did everything to get there.”
