Police Arrest Local Man as Serious Injuries Reported; Incident Not Treated as Terrorism
Merseyside Police have confirmed that 27 people were hospitalized, including two with serious injuries—one of them a child—after a car plowed into pedestrians on Water Street in Liverpool city center. The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. on Monday, following Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory parade.
Authorities swiftly arrested a 53-year-old local man, believed to be the driver of the vehicle involved. At a late-night press conference, Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims assured the public that the crash is not being treated as a terrorist act and appears to be an isolated event.
“We understand people will be deeply concerned by what has happened,” ACC Sims said. “However, we urge everyone to avoid speculation or sharing distressing footage online. Our team is working diligently to determine the full circumstances of this tragic incident.”
Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward with any information, emphasizing the importance of accurate reporting as the investigation continues.
