2Baba Opens Up on Divorce from Annie: “We Gave It Our Best Shot”

Music Legend Speaks Candidly About Failed Marriage and Controversial Views on Male Monogamy

In a heartfelt and revealing interview, Nigerian music icon 2Baba has broken his silence on the end of his 13-year marriage to Annie Macaulay, admitting that despite their best efforts, their union simply “wasn’t working anymore.”

Speaking on the 234 Mzansi Podcast with host Nedu, the African Queen singer, 49, described his ex-wife as “an amazing woman” but stressed that no one should feel pressured to stay in an unhappy marriage.

“Me and her have our own understanding,” he said, choosing to keep the specifics private. “Something wey una get before wey no dey again… I think you should try to fix your marriage, but if it’s beyond that, I don’t think anybody should force anything.”

The father of seven, who has since moved on with Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru, also sparked debate by doubling down on his controversial stance about men and monogamy.

“A man is not built to sexually be with one woman,” he asserted. “His heart, love, and respect can be with one woman, but sexually, it is impossible for a man. It’s biology.”

While acknowledging this view has “gotten so many people into trouble,” 2Baba argued that accepting this “simple fact” could prevent unnecessary heartache—a statement likely to reignite discussions about fidelity in modern relationships.

Since announcing their split in January 2025, both 2Baba and Annie have focused on co-parenting their children, with the actress recently crediting her support system as her “backbone” during this transition.

As for 2Baba, he appears to be embracing this new chapter—recently performing traditional marriage rites with Osawaru in Benue State, where his mother finally met his new partner after months of reported tension.

One thing’s clear: while the “African Queen” love story has ended, 2Baba’s unfiltered honesty continues to stir conversations far beyond the music.
