Midfielder and Agent Vow to Hold Club Accountable for Offensive Banners and Chants
Adrien Rabiot and his mother, Veronique Rabiot, are pursuing legal action against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and its supporters following the abusive behavior directed at them during Sunday’s highly charged Le Classique match between PSG and Olympique de Marseille. The incident has sparked outrage and reignited discussions about fan conduct and club accountability in French football.

Rabiot, who joined Marseille as a free agent in September after leaving Juventus, found himself at the center of controversy during the match, which PSG won 3-1. The 29-year-old midfielder, who spent nine years at PSG earlier in his career, was targeted with offensive banners and chants by PSG supporters. One banner read, “Loyalty for men, betrayal for wh***s – like mother, like son,” while another stated, “We’re waiting for you and your son. You’re going to get the treatment you deserve, and his father will turn in his grave.”

In addition to the banners, PSG fans were accused of engaging in homophobic chants during the game. Rabiot took to social media after the match to condemn the abuse, directly calling out PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
“Insulting a mother and a dead father – you pay for everything someday,” Rabiot wrote. “You will not go to heaven, trust me. Nasser, you can have all of the money in the world, even more, but you can’t buy class.”
Veronique Rabiot, who serves as her son’s agent, has vowed to press charges against PSG and the supporters responsible for the abuse. Speaking to L’Equipe, she expressed her outrage and determination to seek justice. “I’m not hurt, I’m outraged and angry. As for Adrien, everything is fine, he remains calm. But we can’t let such comments go,” she said.
She revealed that the family is consulting with lawyers to explore all legal avenues. “I can’t tell you against whom [we will take legal action] yet because we’re talking to lawyers, and I don’t want to say just anything. But any complaints I can file, I will file them,” she added.
Veronique also criticized PSG for failing to prevent the offensive behavior, suggesting that the club was complicit by not intervening. “Do you think we can bring in banners of this size without anyone knowing? Don’t tell me the clubs aren’t aware. They know perfectly well there are banners. They just have to ask to see them,” she said.
She further highlighted what she described as a double standard in how stadium rules are enforced. “I once smoked in a stadium: someone immediately came to ask me to put out my cigarette. Everyone had been warned that in the event of homophobic chants, the match would be stopped. But it wasn’t. There’s a double standard,” she noted.
Veronique also suggested that PSG’s financial influence and the fear of its Qatari ownership have created a culture of impunity. “I think there’s a fear of PSG, a fear of the Qataris, of Nasser al-Khelaifi. There are too many financial stakes. And when it comes to PSG, everyone dodges the issue,” she said.
The incident adds to PSG’s ongoing legal troubles, including a dispute with former star Kylian Mbappé over unpaid bonuses. For Rabiot and his mother, the legal action represents a stand against the toxic behavior that has marred one of football’s most intense rivalries.
As the case unfolds, it raises important questions about the responsibility of clubs to curb fan misconduct and the measures needed to ensure respect and dignity in the sport. For now, Adrien Rabiot and his mother are determined to hold those responsible accountable, sending a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated.
