Nigerian Superstars Set to Shine at Legendary New Jersey Festival Alongside Gunna, GloRilla and More
The 2024 Hot 97 Summer Jam is about to get a heavy dose of Afrobeats magic as Nigerian sensations Ayra Starr and Asake prepare to bring their explosive energy to one of hip-hop’s most iconic stages. The annual festival, taking place June 20 at Newark’s Prudential Center, just unveiled a powerhouse lineup that bridges generations and genres.
This year’s edition promises to be a cultural collision, pairing Afrobeats’ brightest stars with hip-hop heavyweights like Gunna, GloRilla, and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. The night will also feature special moments including Ja Rule & Friends’ tribute to Irv Gotti and sets from rising stars like Cash Cobain.
“Summer Jam is the heartbeat of hip-hop culture,” said Shelby Joyner, president of The Black Promoters Collective, which produces the event as part of the Prudential North To Shore Festival. “This year’s lineup celebrates how far the genre has come – from legendary acts to the new voices defining its future. Having Ayra Starr and Asake join represents hip-hop’s global expansion in real time.”
For Ayra Starr and Asake, the booking marks another major milestone in their rapid global ascent. The Nigerian stars will bring their infectious rhythms to a festival that has historically served as hip-hop’s biggest summer stage, following in the footsteps of icons like Jay-Z, Nas and Missy Elliott who have graced the Summer Jam stage.
With tickets expected to move quickly for this genre-blending extravaganza, fans are already buzzing about potential surprise collaborations between the Afrobeats stars and their hip-hop counterparts. One thing’s certain: this year’s Summer Jam will be a historic celebration of music’s borderless future.
