Arsenal and Liverpool Monitor Swedish Star’s Future as Doubts Loom Over Tyneside Progress
Alexander Isak, one of Europe’s most prolific strikers, has sent a clear message to Newcastle United regarding what it will take for him to commit his long-term future to the club. The 25-year-old Swedish international, who has scored 10 goals in 15 Premier League appearances this season, has reportedly made Champions League football a key condition for signing a new deal.
According to the Daily Mail, Isak and his camp have expressed concerns about Newcastle’s ability to maintain progress and consistently compete at the highest level. While contract discussions began earlier this year, negotiations have stalled over unresolved issues, including the possibility of a release clause.
Isak remains under contract with Newcastle until 2028, leaving the club in a strong position to demand a significant transfer fee should they decide to part ways with the striker. Having spent a club-record £63 million to bring him in from Real Sociedad in 2022, the Magpies could now command a valuation exceeding £100 million if interest intensifies.
This uncertainty has put Arsenal and Liverpool on high alert. The Gunners, in need of an elite centre-forward to bolster their attacking options alongside Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, have reportedly expressed strong interest in Isak. Meanwhile, Liverpool, whose frontline is led by Darwin Núñez, has also been closely monitoring the situation since November, according to TBR Football.
Newcastle, however, are not rushing into panic mode. With Isak still tied to a long-term deal, the club may opt to hold firm rather than meet his immediate demands. Eddie Howe’s side, currently grappling with their pursuit of a Champions League spot, faces the challenge of convincing their star forward that the project on Tyneside remains promising.
Contract talks began with optimism earlier in the year, with Newcastle intending to make Isak one of their highest earners. However, discussions hit roadblocks over the summer, leaving both parties at an impasse.
As Arsenal and Liverpool monitor developments, the question remains: Can Newcastle persuade Isak to stay, or will another European giant swoop in to capitalize on the uncertainty? For now, the Swedish star’s future hangs in the balance, casting a spotlight on Newcastle’s ambitions and ability to compete at the highest level.
