Alexander Isak remains on strike, insisting a transfer is “in the best interests of everyone” after a relationship breakdown

Newcastle United is facing a full-blown rebellion from star striker Alexander Isak, who has publicly declared his relationship with the club is broken and reiterated his desperate desire to secure a move to Liverpool before Friday’s transfer deadline.

The crisis escalated when Isak took to social media to break his silence, issuing a powerful statement that accused the club of breaking promises and shattering his trust. “I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken,” the Swede wrote on Instagram. “The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time… When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue.”

This public plea comes despite a high-level intervention from Newcastle’s Saudi ownership. A delegation, including chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan and co-owner Jamie Reuben, met with Isak at his home on Monday in an attempt to smooth things over. However, reports indicate the meeting failed to change the player’s mind, and he remains on strike, having already missed matches and being certain to sit out this weekend’s game against Leeds.

The Magpies have publicly pushed back, stating that “no commitment has ever been made” to allow Isak to leave and that he “remains under contract.” However, transfer experts like Fabrizio Romano confirm that Isak’s stance has been clear since July: he wants a move to Anfield and nothing else.

Liverpool, for their part, are waiting in the wings. The Reds saw a British record fixed-fee offer of £110 million swiftly rejected earlier this summer and are reluctant to meet Newcastle’s staggering £150 million asking price. It is believed they are prepared to bid again, potentially up to £120 million, but only if they receive a clear signal from Newcastle that a deal is possible.

With the clock ticking down, the final decision now rests with Newcastle’s chairman, Yasir Al-Rumayyan. He must choose between cashing in on their unhappy star for a colossal fee or forcing a talented but disgruntled player to stay, potentially creating a major disruption within the squad for the season ahead.
