Alexander Isak’s Liverpool Move Heats Up as Striker Jets to Spain Amid €170m Transfer Saga

Newcastle Star Skips Pre-Season Tour, Trains Alone in San Sebastian as Eddie Howe Clings to Hope of Keeping Swedish Talisman

The future of Alexander Isak is unfolding in dramatic fashion, with the Newcastle United striker now taking matters into his own hands by flying to Spain—just as Liverpool prepare a massive €170m (£145m) swoop for his signature.

The 25-year-old Swedish star, who has told Newcastle he wants to explore new opportunities, was conspicuously left out of the Magpies’ pre-season tour squad, officially due to a thigh injury. However, Sky Sports reports that Isak has instead traveled to Spain, where he is training individually at Real Sociedad’s facilities—his former club before joining Newcastle in 2022.

While Isak isn’t reuniting with Sociedad’s squad, his presence in San Sebastian has raised eyebrows. The La Liga side stand to profit significantly from his potential move, thanks to a cleverly negotiated sell-on clause. If Liverpool’s staggering €170m bid succeeds, Sociedad will pocket around €13m—a 10% cut of any fee above €70m, plus an additional 2% of the total deal.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, facing relentless questions about Isak’s future, refused to concede defeat in keeping his star forward.

“He is still our player. He’s contracted to us,” Howe stressed. “My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control. We have not received a formal offer yet.”

With three years left on his deal and an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €116m, Isak’s next move could redefine both Newcastle’s summer plans and Liverpool’s attacking ambitions. As the Swede trains alone in Spain, the transfer saga edges closer to a blockbuster conclusion.
