Ivorian winger thriving under Amorim after struggles with Ten Hag at Manchester United
Amad Diallo has appeared to take a thinly-veiled jab at former manager Erik ten Hag, praising Ruben Amorim for the confidence he’s given him since taking charge at Manchester United. The 22-year-old winger has enjoyed a strong start to the current season, contributing five goals and seven assists since Amorim’s appointment.
Diallo, who joined United for £37 million in January 2021, struggled for game time under Ten Hag, with the Dutch manager often leaving him out of the first-team picture. His lack of minutes led to loan spells at Rangers and Sunderland, but since Amorim took over, the Ivorian has become a regular in the starting lineup.
When asked about the difference between this season and last, Diallo appeared to take aim at his former boss, mentioning the newfound confidence he’s found under Amorim’s guidance.
“Yeah, let’s say maybe it’s confidence because now I’m playing a lot of games,” Diallo told SuperSport. “But now I’m happy to play more games, and I just want to fight for the club, for the team, every time the manager gives me the confidence and the chance to play for this club. I just want to show I can play for this club.”
He continued, adding: “My dream is to achieve a lot of things with this club, that’s why I’m here. I want to fight for this badge and let’s see what the future brings.”
Diallo’s comments highlight the stark contrast in his experience under Ten Hag, where playing time was scarce, and his current role under Amorim, where he’s seen much more regular action. So far this season, Amad has made 26 appearances across all competitions and is expected to play a significant part in United’s plans moving forward under the Portuguese manager.
