Amorim Admits Manchester United “Lacked Quality” in Frustrating Wolves Draw

Boss Points to Injuries After Side Fails to Beat Winless Wolves, Hurting Top-Four Hopes

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim offered a frank assessment of his team’s shortcomings after a frustrating 1-1 draw with a winless Wolverhampton Wanderers side dealt a blow to their Champions League ambitions.

“We lacked fluidity, quality, and the creation of chances,” Amorim said following the match at Old Trafford, where the hosts were unable to secure a vital three points. “These details are important to win these games in difficult moments.”

United, missing a host of key players including captain Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, and Kobbie Mainoo, took the lead through a deflected Joshua Zirkzee effort. However, their inability to kill the game was punished when Wolves defender Ladislav Krejci powered in a header just before halftime, securing a precious point for the league’s bottom side and snapping their 12-game losing streak.

The result leaves United sixth in the table, two points adrift of the top four, having won just once in their last five home matches. Amorim, however, urged perspective, linking the team’s struggles directly to an extensive injury and absence list that also includes AFCON participants Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo.

“I think we are in a situation where you have a lot of players out at the same time,” he explained. “Of course when you play Casemiro and Ugarte in the middle, that is different to when you have Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, or Bruno. That is normal.”

Looking ahead, the Portuguese manager remained optimistic about a turnaround. “I’m really confident when we recover all the players that we are going to be a strong team,” Amorim stated. “There is no doubt in my mind.”

For now, however, the dropped points against a struggling opponent underscore the scale of the challenge facing United as they seek to reclaim their place among Europe’s elite.
