United Boss Incensed by Defensive Lapse in 1-1 West Ham Draw
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was left seething after a basic defensive error led to a costly 1-1 draw with West Ham United at Old Trafford on Thursday.
“Frustrated, angry, that’s it,” was Amorim’s blunt assessment after his team failed to deal with a routine long ball, allowing Soungoutou Magassa to score an 83rd-minute equalizer that canceled out Diogo Dalot’s earlier goal.
The manager directed his fury at the simplicity of the concession, where West Ham won a second ball “against three guys” from what he described as a harmless punt forward. “We cannot let a team that is so much taller than us to have a corner [like that],” Amorim stated, emphasizing what he viewed as an unacceptable breakdown.
While acknowledging his team’s general control in the match, Amorim made clear that such fundamental mistakes are unforgivable at this level. The draw leaves United in eighth place, missing a crucial opportunity to climb into the Premier League’s top five ahead of their Monday trip to Wolves.
