Amorim Lauds Mount as Catalyst for United’s Resurgent Victory

United manager singles out midfielder’s leadership and quality after second-half surge silences Wolves and protest-filled Molineux.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim pointed to the influence of Mason Mount as a key factor in his side’s 4-1 comeback win against Wolverhampton Wanderers on a tense night at Molineux.

After seeing an early lead canceled out before halftime, United surged in the second half with goals from Bryan Mbeumo, Mount, and a second from Bruno Fernandes. Amorim credited his team’s improved composure and specifically highlighted Mount’s complete performance, for which the midfielder earned the Man of the Match award.

“He can defend, he can attack, the quality when he touches the ball is really good,” Amorim said of Mount. “He’s a different type of leader. He leads by example. It doesn’t matter the situation, Mason is always the same—in training, talking, dealing with people. That is not easy, so he’s a very, very good player for us.”

The manager admitted his team had initially struggled to kill the game off. “After we scored, we were a little bit sloppy and gave hope to the opponent,” he said. “But the players understood at halftime that we had everything to win this game. The pace and quality we showed after the break made the difference.”

The emphatic victory, which moves United to sixth, unfolded against a backdrop of acute frustration from the home support. Wolves fans staged a 15th-minute walk-in protest against the club’s ownership, with chants against the board persisting throughout a match that leaves their team winless and bottom of the table.

Wolves boss Rob Edwards called it a “really difficult night,” acknowledging the toxic atmosphere. “I understand the frustration totally,” he said. “The players are trying, but there’s clearly a lack of confidence. It becomes difficult for them.”

For Amorim and United, however, the focus was on a professional job completed, with Mount’s steadfast leadership providing a bright spot in a challenging atmosphere.
