*The United boss praised his team’s never-say-die spirit but rued missed chances after a 96th-minute equalizer snatched a point at Tottenham.*
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim believes his team is just at the “beginning” of its journey to becoming a powerful force, after a roller-coaster 2-2 draw with Tottenham extended their unbeaten run to five games.
The Reds seemed poised for a statement victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, leading for nearly an hour thanks to Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half header. However, the game flipped dramatically as Spurs scored twice in seven minutes through Mathys Tel and Richarlison, putting United on the ropes.
Facing a defeat, United’s resolve was tested further when they were forced to finish the match with ten men after an injury to Benjamin Sesko. But in the sixth minute of stoppage time, defender Matthijs de Ligt rose highest to power in a heroic header, snatching a dramatic point for the visitors.
While proud of the fightback, Amorim couldn’t hide his feeling that it was two points dropped. “During the game, you feel that the three points were there,” he said. “If you look to the game… today was our day to win this game. If we have a little bit more bravery, we can kill this game.”
Despite the frustration of not holding on for the win, the late rescue act reinforced Amorim’s belief in his squad’s growing character. “We believe in our capacity to score goals until the last minute, and we did that,” he stated.
Currently sitting in a modest seventh place, the standings don’t yet reflect the progress Amorim feels is happening. He sees this growing unbeaten streak as a foundation for something greater.
“I understand that this is just the tip of the iceberg,” Amorim explained. “We are just in the beginning of becoming a very strong team, so we have a lot to do.”
For United fans, it was a match that showcased both the team’s lingering flaws and its emerging, resilient spirit—a combination that Amorim is convinced is the starting point for a stronger future.
