The United boss heaps praise on Seagulls’ style and coach, as Fernandes nears a major milestone and Maguire faces a late fitness test.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has issued a clear warning to his squad, stating they will need to be “really smart” and fully focused to overcome a “complete” Brighton & Hove Albion side at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Speaking ahead of the Premier League clash, Amorim expressed his admiration for Brighton’s style of play and their coach, Fabian Hurzeler. “I think Brighton is a team [that is] really fun to watch. They are really good on the build-up… I think they are a team that is really complete,” Amorim told journalists. “I’m a huge fan of Fabian.”
The press conference also provided key updates on the team’s fitness. Amorim revealed that Harry Maguire and Mason Mount are doubts for the match after picking up knocks during the week, though he described the issues as “nothing serious.” He confirmed that Lisandro Martinez remains out but is “closer to returning to training” with the first team.
The match could see captain Bruno Fernandes make his 300th appearance for the club, a milestone that prompted warm praise from his manager. Amorim described Fernandes as a “great leader” and a “great footballer” who takes the team’s results personally. “He wants the responsibility all the time… you can feel that he takes it personally, as you should be, as a captain,” Amorim said.
When asked about the recent turnaround with two consecutive wins, Amorim pointed to the team’s adaptability and spirit, while urging for calm despite the improved mood. He emphasized that the narrative can change quickly and the team must stay on its chosen path.
On the subject of Harry Maguire’s revived form, Amorim was clearly pleased, suggesting a shift to a back-three has benefitted the defender. “I’m really happy,” he said, while challenging Maguire to continue improving, particularly with the ball at his feet.
