ottenham Boss Defiant Despite Turbulent Season and Links to Potential Replacements
Ange Postecoglou has made it clear he is focused on taking Tottenham Hotspur forward—despite growing speculation that chairman Daniel Levy is considering a managerial change.
The 59-year-old ended Spurs’ 17-year trophy drought earlier this month with a gritty 1-0 Europa League final victory over Manchester United. Yet that triumph was overshadowed by a dismal Premier League campaign, where Tottenham finished just one place above the relegation zone after suffering a staggering 22 defeats—the most ever by a team that avoided the drop in a 38-game season.
Despite the chaos, Postecoglou remains bullish about his future, telling fans during the club’s victory parade: “For all the best TV shows, season three is better than season two.” Speaking in an interview for Australian Story, he doubled down on his ambitions, urging his players not to settle for just one trophy.
“I didn’t want us to just enjoy the moment,” he said. “I wanted us to think about what’s next. We’ve got a taste for it now—the players, the club—so let’s make sure we’re back here again.”
However, reports suggest Levy is exploring alternatives, with Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Fulham’s Marco Silva, and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola all linked with the job. Postecoglou, who has previously dismissed speculation over his future as “weird,” remains defiant.
“I’ve had to answer questions about my future when no one else at the club is in a position to do so,” he said after Spurs’ final-day 4-1 thrashing by Brighton. “But this could be a defining moment for Tottenham. Everywhere I’ve been, I’ve left clubs in a better place—and this team can compete for trophies every year.”
With tension between on-field success and off-field uncertainty, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether Postecoglou gets his chance to deliver that “season three” resurgence—or if Levy opts for a new direction.
