Angola’s Palancas Negras Showered with Incentives Ahead of AFCON Quarterfinal Showdown Against Nigeria

Cash and Gifts Galore for Players and Officials as Angola Gears Up for Crucial Clash

In a bid to boost morale and motivation, Angola’s national football team, the Palancas Negras, has been generously rewarded with cash and material gifts ahead of their highly anticipated Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarterfinal clash against the Super Eagles of Nigeria scheduled for this Friday.

After an impressive 3-0 victory against Namibia in the Round-of-16 on Saturday, the Palancas Negras are set to face Nigeria in what promises to be a thrilling quarterfinal encounter. In a gesture of confidence and support, the team has been promised additional cash incentives if they manage to secure a spot in the semifinals.

According to a report from the Angola Press Agency, Banco Angolano de Investimento, a prominent bank in Angola, has pledged to reward each player and member of the coaching staff with a substantial sum of five million Kwanzas, equivalent to approximately N5.41 million.

Aguinaldo Jaime, the President of the Board of Directors of UNITEL, a leading private Angolan mobile phone company, has also joined the chorus of support by presenting every member of the Angolan delegation in Cote d’Ivoire with the latest iPhone 15, complete with free calls, SMS, and internet services for a year.

SODIAM EP, a diamond trading company, has further sweetened the pot by promising the team a remarkable US$250,000 (equivalent to N225 million) if they manage to emerge victorious against the formidable Super Eagles.

Both teams, Nigeria and Angola, enter Friday’s quarterfinal clash with unblemished records in the tournament. Nigeria secured victories against Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, and five-time champions Cameroon in the second round. Meanwhile, Angola’s journey included a 1-1 draw with Algeria, a 3-2 triumph over Mauritania, a convincing 2-0 win against Burkina Faso in the final group match, and a dominant 3-0 performance against Namibia in the Round-of-16. The stage is set for an electrifying encounter between these two unbeaten teams vying for a coveted spot in the AFCON semifinals.
