INEC Declares APC Ahead in 11 out of 16 Local Governments; PDP Challenges Results
Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Edo State governorship election, is on course to victory according to the latest results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
With results from 17 local government areas released so far, Okpebholo has emerged as the frontrunner, winning 11 of the 16 local governments declared by INEC. He has secured a total of 275,329 votes, leading his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who has garnered 195,954 votes. This gives Okpebholo a significant lead of 79,375 votes.
The Labour Party (LP) candidate, Olumide Akpata, is trailing in third place with a distant margin. The only remaining local government area yet to be declared is Ikpoba-Okha.
However, the PDP has rejected the results from the local governments won by the APC, alleging electoral malpractice. Osagbovo Iyoha, Chief of Staff to the Edo State Governor and a party agent, claimed that the results were “manufactured” by INEC and did not reflect the will of the Edo people.
As the final result from Ikpoba-Okha is awaited, the PDP has vowed to challenge the outcome of the election, casting a shadow over the anticipated victory of the APC candidate.
