Arsenal Apologizes to Atletico Madrid After Training Session Hot Water Incident

Spanish club files official complaint with UEFA following incident that forced players to return to hotel without showering.

Arsenal has issued an apology to Atletico Madrid after the Spanish club filed an official complaint with UEFA over a lack of hot water following their training session at the Emirates Stadium. The incident forced Atletico players to depart the ground without showering and return to their London hotel still in their training gear.

Spanish press reported that Atletico were left “furious” by what they perceived as gamesmanship, reminiscent of historical tactics used to unsettle visiting teams. However, Arsenal maintains this was a genuine error that affected both changing rooms and was promptly fixed once discovered.

According to reports, Atletico notified Arsenal staff of the issue at 6:45 PM during their training session. The team ended practice early at 7:15 PM but, finding the problem unresolved, chose to leave immediately. Arsenal confirmed the hot water was restored by 7:25 PM.

The controversy comes as both managers expressed mutual respect ahead of their Champions League match. Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta praised Atletico boss Diego Simeone, stating: “The way they live, the way they behave, the way they act in everything and the purpose they have to win and they find a way to do that… That is something driven by their mentality and their passion.”
