Versatile Full-Back Impresses, Spurs Interest from Top European Clubs
Arsenal has made a £17 million bid for Fenerbahce and Turkey full-back Ferdi Kadioglou, according to reports. Kadioglou recently impressed in Turkey’s 3-1 win over Georgia in their Euro 2024 qualifier, showcasing his skill with forward runs and solid defending.
The 24-year-old, primarily a left-back, can also play on the right side of defense and in central midfield.
This versatility makes him an attractive option for Arsenal, with manager Mikel Arteta potentially using him as an inverted full-back. Kadioglou’s performance against Georgia has intensified speculation, with Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund also expressing interest.
Arsenal, aiming to strengthen their squad after finishing second in the Premier League for two consecutive seasons, reportedly offered £17 million (€20 million) for Kadioglou. However, Dortmund has reportedly bid £21.1 million (€25 million), with their new manager, former Turkey international Nuri Sahin, potentially influencing Kadioglou’s decision.
Fenerbahce has rejected both offers, with club president Ali Koc valuing the player at £29.5 million (€35 million). While there is interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, Kadioglou is reportedly not interested in moving to the Middle East.
Under contract until 2026, Fenerbahce might be keen to sell Kadioglou before his value decreases. Arsenal’s continued pursuit may depend on his performances at Euro 2024. The potential move is also influenced by Kieran Tierney’s situation; the Arsenal left-back recently suffered a serious injury while on loan at Real Sociedad, possibly affecting Arteta’s transfer plans.
Dortmund, initially interested in signing Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen, now seems to be prioritizing Kadioglou, especially with Maatsen close to joining Aston Villa. Other names are reportedly on Dortmund’s list, but Kadioglou remains a top target.
