Swedish Striker Set for Medical as Gunners Aim to Fast-Track His Arrival on Asia Tour
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is pushing for new signing Viktor Gyökeres to join the squad’s preseason tour of Asia as the club finalizes a €73.5 million ($87m) deal with Sporting CP.
According to reports, the 27-year-old striker has been granted permission to travel to London for a medical after the two clubs reached an agreement. While the exact timing remains unclear, Arsenal hopes Gyökeres can link up with the team during their tour, which includes matches in Singapore and Hong Kong.
Arteta has made no secret of his desire to integrate new signings as quickly as possible. When asked about potential additions joining the tour, he said, “Yes, for sure. Once everything is finalized, we want the player with the team immediately. It helps them adapt, build relationships, and understand our ideas.”
The Gunners’ boss remained tight-lipped when directly questioned about Gyökeres, stating, “You know I can’t discuss players who aren’t ours yet. If anything happens, the club will announce it.”
The deal progressed after Arsenal agreed to a €10m add-ons package, with one clause reportedly tied to Champions League qualification. Gyökeres’ arrival would follow the signing of defender Cristhian Mosquera, who recently joined the squad in preseason.
Fans will be eager to see if the Swedish forward can make it in time for Sunday’s clash against Newcastle in Singapore—or if he’ll instead meet his new teammates in Hong Kong ahead of the North London derby against Tottenham.
