Arsenal Complete €60m Signing of Chelsea Winger Noni Madueke Despite Fan Backlash

England International Signs Five-Year Deal as Gunners Bolster Attack, but Supporters Voice Disapproval

Arsenal have finalized the signing of Chelsea winger Noni Madueke in a deal worth up to €60 million, with the 22-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Emirates. The transfer, confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, is set to be officially announced on Wednesday after Madueke successfully completed his medical on Monday.

The move, however, has sparked frustration among sections of the Arsenal fanbase, with many questioning whether the former PSV star is the right fit for Mikel Arteta’s project. A petition titled ‘#NOTOMADUEKE’ gained over 3,000 signatures in just 24 hours, while social media has been flooded with criticism over the signing. Some supporters argue that the Gunners should be targeting higher-profile names as they look to challenge for the Premier League title.

Despite the backlash, Arsenal pressed ahead with the deal, seeing Madueke as a versatile option who can provide competition for Bukayo Saka on the right flank while also offering cover on the left. The England international, who began his career at Crystal Palace and Tottenham before flourishing at PSV, arrives with a solid reputation—having scored 20 goals in 91 appearances for Chelsea since his €33m move in 2023.

With Chelsea willing to sell after bringing in Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens, Arsenal seized the opportunity to strengthen their attacking depth. Arteta’s side have been actively seeking reinforcements out wide, with Gabriel Martinelli’s inconsistent form also prompting the need for another left-sided option.

Madueke, who has 13 England caps, now faces the challenge of winning over skeptical fans as he prepares to fight for his place in a star-studded attack. The Gunners will hope his pace, directness, and big-game experience can help bridge the gap to Manchester City—even if not all supporters are convinced just yet.
