Arsenal Eye Late Move for Leverkusen’s Hincapie in Defensive Reshuffle

A potential loan deal for the Ecuadorian star could pave the way for Jakub Kiwior’s departure as Mikel Arteta seeks to bolster his backline.

With the summer transfer window reaching its final days, Arsenal are exploring a surprise move for Bayer Leverkusen’s highly-rated defender Piero Hincapie, according to The Telegraph.

The report suggests the Gunners are investigating the possibility of a structured deal, potentially a loan with an obligation to buy next summer, to navigate Financial Fair Play regulations. This would allow them to secure the £52 million-rated Ecuador international without an immediate major outlay.

The pursuit of Hincapie is driven by a need for reliable depth on the left side of central defence. Since his arrival, fellow summer signing Riccardo Calafiori has been hampered by injury setbacks, leaving manager Mikel Arteta looking for more robust options.

This potential move could have a direct impact on defender Jakub Kiwior’s future at the Emirates. Porto have registered interest in the Polish international, and his departure is seen as a possibility if it helps facilitate the deal for Hincapie.

Arsenal’s spending this window has already surpassed £200 million, prompting a focus on player sales to balance the books. The club is also working on outgoings for several other squad players, including Fabio Vieira, Reiss Nelson, and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

In a boost for Arsenal’s hopes, it is believed that London rivals Tottenham, who were also previously linked with Hincapie, are now pursuing other targets. Chelsea have also stated they are not currently in the market for a central defender, potentially clearing the path for Arteta to secure his desired defensive reinforcement.
