Atletico Madrid striker emerges as one of the summer’s most sought-after forwards, with London rivals and Spanish giants all willing to pay over £80 million.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez is set to turn into a major transfer battle, with both Chelsea and Barcelona now firmly in the race for his signature.
The Gunners had identified the Argentine international as a potential addition to bolster their attack, particularly after Viktor Gyökeres’ modest return of six Premier League goals since his £55 million move. However, Mikel Arteta’s side now face stiff competition from two of Europe’s biggest clubs.
According to The Mirror, Chelsea have entered the chase alongside long-term admirers Barcelona, setting the stage for a high-stakes bidding war. Atlético Madrid are expected to demand more than the £82 million they paid Manchester City for Álvarez in 2024.
The 26-year-old’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, recently travelled to the UK and is believed to have held talks with both Arsenal and Chelsea. Despite interest from England, it’s understood that Barcelona remains Álvarez’s preferred destination, though the Catalan club’s well-documented financial constraints could complicate any deal.
With all three clubs reportedly prepared to break the bank, the competition for one of the market’s most proven forwards is heating up ahead of the summer window.
