Gunners fans raise eyebrows over possible recall of Fabio Vieira after key squad absence
Arsenal supporters are buzzing with speculation after tracking a private jet from Porto to London, sparking rumors that the club could be planning to recall midfielder Fabio Vieira as a replacement for the injured Bukayo Saka.
Saka, who sustained a serious hamstring injury during Arsenal’s 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace on December 21, is set to miss several weeks of action. Following surgery, the 23-year-old winger is expected to be sidelined for at least two months, as confirmed by manager Mikel Arteta.
In an Instagram post on Saturday, Saka reassured fans: “The majority see obstacles, but few see the opportunities. Recovery has begun and I’m coming back stronger. Thank you all for your messages #GodsPlan.”
With Saka out, Arteta has acknowledged the need for the team to find solutions, but those plans have been complicated by the additional absence of Raheem Sterling due to injury. For their recent 1-0 win over Ipswich, Leandro Trossard was brought in, with captain Martin Ødegaard moving into Saka’s usual role.
However, Gunners fans are wondering if Arteta might look outside the squad to address the gap left by Saka.
The speculation grew after supporters noticed a private jet flying from Porto to London on Saturday evening. Fabio Vieira, currently on loan at Porto from Arsenal, was left out of the squad for Porto’s 4-0 win over Boavista that same day, further fueling rumors that he could be heading back to the Premier League.
While fans jumped to conclusions, connecting the jet to Vieira’s potential recall, Porto manager Vitor Bruno quickly quelled the speculation. Bruno confirmed in his post-match comments that Vieira’s omission from the squad was a personal decision but that the midfielder would continue his loan with Porto. “Fabio has a lot of talent and will be available next week,” Bruno said, adding that the club remains committed to Vieira’s development.
For now, Arsenal fans will have to wait and see whether the speculation proves true or if Arteta has other plans to cope with Saka’s absence.
