Arsenal in Race Against Time to Land Top Striker Target Viktor Gyökeres

Manchester United Loom as Rivals for Red-Hot Sporting Lisbon Star Amid €100m Release Clause*

Arsenal must act quickly in their pursuit of Viktor Gyökeres or risk losing the in-demand Sporting Lisbon striker to Manchester United, with transfer insider David Ornstein warning the Gunners that “time is ticking” on a potential deal.

The Swedish international has emerged as Arsenal’s priority No. 9 target after a sensational season in Portugal, where he’s netted an astonishing 52 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions. However, United manager Rúben Amorim – who worked successfully with Gyökeres during their 18 months together at Sporting – is pushing hard to reunite with the prolific forward at Old Trafford.

“Gyökeres remains firmly on Arsenal’s radar and is a player sporting director Andrea Berta particularly admires,” Ornstein revealed. “He represents arguably the best value in the market right now, but the clock is ticking and competition is growing. Amorim’s existing relationship adds another layer to this battle.”

The 26-year-old’s €100 million release clause makes this one of the summer’s most expensive potential transfers, but his remarkable back-to-back campaigns – including 43 goals last season – have made him Europe’s most sought-after striker. With 15 goals in 26 caps for Sweden, Gyökeres is ready for the next step in his career, and Sporting are prepared to sell.

While Chelsea have also shown interest, the real threat comes from United, who are desperate for firepower after another underwhelming season. Though linked with Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko and others, Amorim’s prior success with Gyökeres makes him their preferred choice.

For Arsenal, securing Gyökeres would solve their long-standing striker issues, but they can’t afford to hesitate. With United circling and other clubs monitoring the situation, the North London side must decide quickly whether to meet Sporting’s hefty asking price or risk missing out on one of football’s most lethal finishers.
