RB Leipzig star’s preference for London gives Gunners an edge in heated transfer race
Arsenal have identified RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as their top transfer priority for the summer, and the 21-year-old has reportedly indicated he is open to joining Mikel Arteta’s side. The Slovenian forward has been in sensational form this season, netting 17 goals in 34 matches for the Bundesliga club, including four in eight Champions League appearances.
However, Arsenal are not alone in their pursuit of the prolific striker. According to reports, Liverpool have also entered the race to sign Sesko, who has scored 16 goals in 39 appearances for Slovenia’s national team. Despite the Reds’ impressive season, Arsenal are believed to be in a strong position to secure his signature, with Sesko reportedly favoring a move to London.
This preference could see Chelsea emerge as serious contenders, though Manchester United, Newcastle, and Aston Villa are also said to be monitoring the situation. In a further boost for Arsenal, it has been revealed that Sesko’s €70 million release clause may not need to be paid in full. Sources indicate that RB Leipzig are willing to negotiate a deal below the clause, provided the overall package is deemed suitable.
Sesko’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €56.3 million, having more than doubled over the past year thanks to his outstanding performances. While his release clause slightly exceeds his market value, Arsenal are hopeful of securing him for a reasonable fee as they aim to strengthen their attacking options.
The Gunners are reportedly planning an ambitious summer overhaul, with plans to sign both Sesko and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. However, landing Sesko at a favorable price will be crucial to making this double deal financially viable.
