Arsenal Must “Earn the Right” to Reach Champions League Final, Says Arteta

Manager Urges Squad to Seize Historic Opportunity Against PSG

Ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League semi-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain, manager Mikel Arteta has called on his players to “earn the right” to compete in the final on May 31.

The Gunners pulled off a stunning victory over Real Madrid in the quarter-finals to reach the last four, with Arteta describing the upcoming match as “probably one of the biggest games the Emirates has seen since it was built.”

Speaking to reporters, the Spanish coach emphasized the importance of playing with confidence and ambition. “We have to let the players loose tomorrow—let them step onto that pitch and express themselves,” he said. “This is the moment to show who we are as a team, as individuals. We have to give everything to make it happen.”

Arteta, 43, praised his squad’s resilience, highlighting how they’ve battled through challenges to become one of Europe’s top four teams. “It tells you everything about the mindset, the spirit, and how much we want this,” he said.

With Arsenal never having won the Champions League before, Arteta sees this as an “incredible opportunity” to make history. “We’re here to make people happy, to create something special—and we’re very close,” he said. “Now, we have to take our chance.”

He also drew inspiration from Arsenal’s women’s team, who staged a dramatic comeback against Lyon to reach their own Champions League final. “They’ve been an inspiration,” Arteta admitted. “What they’ve achieved, and the way they did it, shows us the path. We want to be there too.”
