Arsenal Push to Offload Eddie Nketiah with Loan-to-Buy Deal; Marseille Considering Offer

Gunners Lower Demands, Await Marseille’s Decision on Striker Transfer

Arsenal is reportedly determined to offload striker Eddie Nketiah, with the club now actively working to finalize his departure. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Gunners have softened their stance on the 25-year-old’s exit, reigniting stalled negotiations with French club Olympique Marseille.

After initial talks hit a roadblock, Arsenal’s willingness to lower their demands has brought Marseille back to the negotiating table. Ornstein reports that Arsenal has proposed a new transfer formula, offering Nketiah on an initial loan with a €30 million obligation to buy. This proposal is currently under consideration by Marseille.

Earlier reports from French media suggested that Arsenal was asking for a €25 million transfer fee. However, Ornstein indicates that the north London club’s current demands are slightly higher. The decision now rests with Marseille on whether to proceed with Arsenal’s latest offer.

Personal terms over a five-year contract have already been agreed upon between Nketiah and Marseille, with the striker eager to make the move after being relegated to third-choice at Arsenal last season.

Marseille, under new coach Roberto De Zerbi, has had a busy summer in the transfer market and has already spent significant sums. The French giants had initially shifted their focus to other targets, including Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko and RC Lens striker Elye Wahi, after deeming Arsenal’s earlier demands unreasonable. However, Arsenal’s willingness to compromise has rekindled Marseille’s interest in Nketiah.

It remains to be seen whether Marseille is prepared to meet the €30 million price tag for Nketiah, as they weigh their options in what has already been an eventful transfer window.
