Arsenal have reopened negotiations with Atalanta for Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman, as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new season.

The 27-year-old, who was crowned Africa’s Footballer of the Year in 2024, has been in scintillating form for the Italian club, scoring 20 goals and providing seven assists across all competitions last season. His performances have reignited interest from top European clubs, with Arsenal now pushing to bring the London-born winger back to the Premier League.

Lookman, who previously played for Fulham and Everton, has made no secret of his desire for a fresh challenge. Atalanta blocked his exit last summer after selling midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, but the Serie A side appear more open to negotiations this time around. According to Italian transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà, Arsenal have rekindled talks and are exploring a deal worth around €50 million (£42 million), though Atalanta may accept a lower initial fee with performance-based add-ons.

With two years remaining on his contract, Lookman’s future remains uncertain, but his ambition to test himself at the highest level could force Atalanta’s hand. The Gunners, meanwhile, see him as a versatile attacking option capable of adding depth and firepower to their frontline.

While discussions are still in the early stages, Lookman’s proven track record and Premier League experience make him an attractive target. If Arsenal can finalize a deal, it could be one of the standout moves of the summer—giving Arteta another weapon in his quest for silverware.
