Gunners Eye Nigerian Striker Amid Chelsea’s Uncertain Pursuit
Arsenal has reportedly re-entered the race to sign Napoli forward Victor Osimhen as the transfer window draws to a close. Despite Mikel Arteta’s public satisfaction with his current striker options, including Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, the Gunners are said to be pushing for a late move for the Nigerian star.
According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal is making a renewed effort to secure Osimhen’s services before the summer transfer window shuts. The 24-year-old striker, who scored 15 goals in 25 Serie A appearances last season, has been linked with a move away from Napoli but has yet to receive a suitable offer.
Paris Saint-Germain has reportedly cooled their interest in Osimhen, even after Gonçalo Ramos’ recent injury, while the striker himself is not keen on a move to the Saudi Pro League. Chelsea has been leading the race for Osimhen for several months, especially as Napoli eyes a move for Blues forward Romelu Lukaku. However, Chelsea is currently considering a loan deal, which does not appeal to Osimhen.
This uncertainty has allowed Arsenal to re-emerge as serious contenders for the striker. While the Gunners have only secured Riccardo Calafiori and David Raya on permanent deals this summer, they are reportedly preparing a significant bid for Osimhen as the transfer deadline approaches.
Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol recently confirmed Chelsea’s continued interest in signing a new striker, mentioning that while Osimhen has been a target all summer, a permanent deal remains unlikely for the West London club at this time.
With Osimhen’s estimated transfer value standing at €71.1 million, Arsenal faces a competitive and financially demanding race to secure the Nigerian international before the window closes.
