10-Man Gunners Fight Back From Two Goals Down to Deny Liverpool in Thrilling Clash
Arsenal showed their fighting spirit with a dramatic second-half comeback to earn a 2-2 draw against Premier League champions Liverpool at Anfield, extending their unbeaten run against the Reds to six league matches.
The Gunners, still stinging from their midweek Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain, had to endure an early onslaught from Liverpool under the Merseyside sun. Luis DÃaz forced a sharp save from David Raya inside 10 minutes, but the Arsenal keeper was helpless soon after when Cody Gakpo nodded in Andrew Robertson’s pinpoint cross. Just two minutes later, DÃaz struck again, slotting home after a slick move involving Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai.
With Liverpool threatening to run riot, Raya came to the rescue again, denying Curtis Jones as the hosts dominated the first half. But Arsenal emerged after the break with renewed energy, and Gabriel Martinelli’s clever header from Leandro Trossard’s cross gave them hope just three minutes into the second half.
Sensing a shift in momentum, Liverpool boss Arne Slot made a triple substitution, including a mixed reception for Real Madrid-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold. Yet Arsenal kept pushing, and Mikel Merino leveled the score with a close-range header after Alisson parried Martin Ødegaard’s long-range effort onto the post.
The joy was short-lived for Merino, however, as he was sent off minutes later for a second yellow card, leaving Arsenal to cling on with 10 men. Liverpool thought they had won it in stoppage time when Robertson fired in, but the offside flag crushed their hopes, ensuring the Gunners left with a hard-earned point.

The result leaves Arsenal on the verge of securing Champions League football next season, while Liverpool—despite their title win—were left frustrated after letting a two-goal lead slip in front of their home fans.
