Arteta Hails “Immense” Players as Gunners Take Control of Champions League Group
Arsenal delivered a statement performance at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, overpowering a vaunted Bayern Munich side 3-1 to seize control of their Champions League group.
Facing a Bayern team many consider Europe’s finest, the Gunners grew stronger as the game went on, producing a dominant second-half display to see off the six-time European champions.
The match swung back and forth early on. Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber broke the deadlock, only for Bayern’s 17-year-old talent, Lennart Karl, to level the score just before halftime. The momentum, however, belonged firmly to the home side.

The introduction of substitutes Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli proved decisive. Madueke put Arsenal back in front with his first goal for the club, before Martinelli capitalized on a shocking error from Bayern’s veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to seal a deserved win.
The victory sends Arsenal clear at the top of the table with a perfect five wins from five, putting them on the brink of automatic qualification for the knockout stage.
A delighted manager Mikel Arteta was full of praise for his squad. “I have to praise our players because I think they had an incredible match against, in my opinion, the best team in Europe,” Arteta said. “Individually, we were immense in resolving all the challenges this team brings.”
He pointed to the impact from the bench as a key factor in the win. “I look at the players and they are coming in and they can change the game,” Arteta noted. “That mindset is making a huge difference for us.”
Despite the euphoria, Arteta insisted his team’s feet would remain on the ground. “Today is another massive victory, but that’s it,” he said with a smile. “Now we go home, have a nice dinner, and tomorrow morning we’ll start to prepare for Stamford Bridge.”
The win, combined with their recent form, is fueling belief that this Arsenal squad is on the cusp of something special. For now, the focus quickly shifts to a Premier League showdown with in-form Chelsea this Sunday.
