Gunners Boss Delighted as Strikers Shine in Commanding 3-1 Win at San Siro
Mikel Arteta lauded the impact of Viktor Gyokeres and hailed a “special performance” after Arsenal secured their place in the Champions League last 16 with a commanding 3-1 victory over Inter Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday night.
The win, Arsenal’s seventh straight in the competition, was sealed by a late, superb finish from substitute Gyokeres, whose emphatic 84th-minute strike put the result beyond doubt. Arteta was quick to defend his summer signing from recent criticism, telling reporters the Swede brings “something very special” to the team.

“I’m very happy for him,” Arteta said after the match. “It’s a great finish, and he really helped the team. He brings something very special to the team.”
The Gunners had taken control early through a brace from Gabriel Jesus, who seized his starting opportunity with two poacher’s finishes either side of a thunderous equalizer from Inter’s Petar Sucic. Arteta beamed when discussing Jesus’s contribution, calling him an “unbelievable player” who thrives in big games.
“The bigger the game is, the more comfortable he plays,” Arteta said. “I’m so happy for him. Not many players win here at the San Siro!”
While the victory sends Arsenal six points clear at the top of the league phase and into the knockout rounds, it presents Arteta with a welcome dilemma ahead of Sunday’s clash with Manchester United. With Jesus in sparkling form, Gyokeres making a strong case from the bench, and Kai Havertz now back from injury, the manager faces an attacking selection headache.
Jesus, who was named man of the match, remained diplomatic about his chances of starting at Old Trafford. “Everyone wants to start. I am a very respectful guy,” the 28-year-old said. “I am happy Vik came on and scored. I am confident Kai will score when he gets his chance.”
For now, Arteta is simply reveling in a statement European night. “We talked before the game about needing a special performance against a top side,” he reflected. “To do it at the San Siro against one of the best teams in Europe… it’s something else.”
