Odegaard and Zinchenko Absent, Youth Players Likely to Feature
Arsenal held an open training session on Wednesday, offering positive news for fans as both Bukayo Saka and Riccardo Calafiori participated.
Saka, who was forced off during Arsenal’s recent north London derby win over Tottenham Hotspur due to cramp, has made a quick recovery, as confirmed by his return to training.
Meanwhile, Calafiori, who missed the derby due to an injury sustained over the international break, is also back in action.
Though Saka’s return is a relief for Arsenal supporters, the team still faces challenges, as both captain Martin Odegaard and Oleksandr Zinchenko were absent from the session. The pair had already missed Sunday’s derby, and their continued absence raises doubts about their availability for Arsenal’s Champions League opener against Atalanta in Italy on Thursday.
With key players out, manager Mikel Arteta may call upon some of Arsenal’s youth talent. Ethan Nwaneri, who has been making strides in the academy, is expected to be among the top contenders for minutes. Other promising youngsters, such as Tommy Setford, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Ayden Heaven, were also seen in Arsenal’s recent first-team photo and could be in contention for Thursday’s squad.
As Arsenal embark on their first match in the new Champions League League Phase format, they’ll be hoping for a positive start, despite the absence of several key players.
