Gunners Boss Confident Champions League Run Will Lure Top Talent as Havertz Nears Surprise Return
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believes the club’s dominant Champions League quarter-final victory over Real Madrid—which booked their first semi-final berth in 15 years—will strengthen their pull in the upcoming transfer window. The Gunners dismantled the Spanish giants 5-1 on aggregate, setting up a mouth-watering clash with Paris Saint-Germain later this month.
Arteta, who has long sought a marquee striker, acknowledged that such high-profile performances could tip the scales in negotiations with top targets. While stand-in forward Mikel Merino has impressed, Arsenal remain linked with Sporting’s Viktor Gyökeres, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško, and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.
“Maybe this is another factor,” Arteta told reporters with a smile. “But we’re fortunate—when we speak to players, they already want to join us. Nights like these? They create even more excitement. Players think, I want to be part of this now, because the club is in a fantastic place. We’re ready, we’re strong, and we can attract anyone.”
In a surprising update, Arteta also hinted that Kai Havertz—initially ruled out for months after a hamstring injury in February—could defy expectations and return before season’s end.
“Semi-finals? That might be too soon,” Arteta admitted. “But if you asked me to bet on him beating the timeline? I’d say yes. The way he’s working in the gym every day—I don’t think we’ll be able to hold him back much longer.”
With a historic Champions League run galvanizing the squad and Havertz’s potential comeback adding intrigue, Arsenal’s season promises a thrilling climax—both on the pitch and in the summer market.
