Gunners Face Tough Battle to Land Top Attacking Targets as Competition Heats Up
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has identified three key attacking targets for the summer transfer window, but securing any of them will be no easy task, according to Arsenal transfer journalist Charles Watts. At the top of Arteta’s wishlist is Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, the Swedish striker who has impressed in the Premier League. However, Watts warns that a deal for Isak would be “incredibly difficult” due to the astronomical fee Newcastle would demand.

With Isak likely to be a challenging acquisition, Arteta has turned his attention to RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko as a more attainable alternative. The 20-year-old Slovenian forward has been on Arsenal’s radar for some time, and the club already has established relationships with both the player’s representatives and Leipzig. However, Watts cautions that Sesko’s rising profile means Arsenal will face stiff competition for his signature.

Completing Arteta’s trio of targets is Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, whose €58 million release clause has attracted interest from several top clubs. The Spanish international’s versatility and explosive pace make him an attractive option, but Arsenal will need to fend off rival suitors to bring him to the Emirates.

“The summer window has long been Arsenal’s priority when it comes to adding to the squad,” Watts explained. “They have their long-term targets, and I’m sure they will try to get them. Whether they can do that, however, remains to be seen.”
Arsenal’s decision to hold off on signing a striker in the January window has left them relying on Kai Havertz to lead the line for the remainder of the season. The Gunners had been expected to bolster their attack after Gabriel Jesus suffered an ACL injury, but the club opted to wait until the summer to make their move.
Watts believes Arsenal are preparing for an aggressive summer in the transfer market, but he acknowledges the challenges they will face. “It will not be easy given the competition they will face for their top targets,” he said.
For Arsenal fans, the summer promises to be a pivotal moment in the club’s quest to build a squad capable of challenging for major honors. While Isak remains the dream signing, Sesko and Williams represent more realistic options, though neither will come without a fight.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Arteta and the Arsenal hierarchy to see if they can turn their ambitious plans into reality. One thing is certain: the Gunners are determined to make a statement in the transfer market, but the road to securing their top targets will be anything but straightforward.
