Arteta Backs Squad Depth Amid Defender Gabriel’s Injury Ahead of Real Madrid Clash

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has vowed his squad will “find solutions” after confirming defender Gabriel will miss the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury, dealing a major blow to their Premier League and Champions League ambitions.

The Brazilian center-back, who has formed a formidable partnership with William Saliba in Arsenal’s league-best defense, underwent surgery after picking up the injury during Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Fulham. His absence comes at a critical juncture, with a tricky trip to Everton on Saturday followed by the Champions League quarterfinal first leg against Real Madrid on Tuesday.

“A Tough One to Digest” – Arteta Reacts to Injury Blow

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, a visibly frustrated Arteta admitted: “It was a tough one to digest because we just got Bukayo [Saka] back and then we lose Gabi. But the team reacted like they have all season – I’m really proud of that.”

The Spanish coach remained defiant, however, insisting Arsenal have the depth to cope: “We’ve come so far and now we have the most important, beautiful part of the season. Other players will get opportunities. It’s a big miss, but we have the resources to cope.”

Potential Boost as White & Timber Near Return

In a silver lining for the Gunners, Arteta hinted that Ben White and Jurriën Timber could return soon from their respective knee injuries, with “a chance” they feature against Everton. Their comeback would provide much-needed defensive reinforcement, though Riccardo Calafiori remains sidelined with a similar issue.

The injury crisis tests Arsenal’s title credentials at the worst possible time, with their defensive solidity having been the foundation of their success this season. How Arteta reshuffles his backline could define their chances in both domestic and European competitions.

“We have to find other ways,” Arteta stressed. “This is when the squad steps up.”

With the Premier League race neck-and-neck and a historic Champions League clash looming, Arsenal’s resilience faces its toughest examination yet.
