Arteta Praises Remarkable Gabriel and Relentless Rice After Arsenal’s Fightback

Duo Shine as Gunners Overcome Early Scare at Bournemouth to Extend Premier League Lead

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta heaped praise on defender Gabriel and midfielder Declan Rice, whose decisive contributions steered the league leaders to a crucial 3-2 comeback victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Gunners’ afternoon began in disastrous fashion when Gabriel’s errant pass was intercepted by Evanilson, who fired Bournemouth into a 10th-minute lead. The Brazilian center-back, however, displayed immediate resilience, equalizing just six minutes later with a powerful left-footed strike.

“With the manner we conceded the first goal, what Gabriel did was remarkable,” Arteta told BBC Match of the Day. “He showed leadership and unity. We will learn from it.”

The match was ultimately decided by the relentless drive of Declan Rice. Despite missing the midweek win over Aston Villa and only returning to training on Friday due to a knee issue, the England international delivered a match-winning second-half brace.

“Declan was struggling the last few days, but pushed and pushed and made himself available,” Arteta said. “He played 96 minutes, scored two goals, and was one of the best players on the pitch. That is the mentality we need.”

Rice, who scored his first Premier League double, was quick to share the credit. “We are going to need everyone chipping in at different points,” he said. “I’m happy to help the team.”

The hard-fought win extends Arsenal’s lead at the top to six points over Aston Villa, with a pivotal home clash against champions Liverpool looming on Thursday. Arteta, however, urged caution, emphasizing the long road ahead.

“We are still in January,” he said. “We have nine games this month, so we will play game-by-game.”
