Arteta Reveals Direct Talks with Saliba Over Real Madrid Transfer “Noise”

The Arsenal manager shares a transparent conversation with his star defender, who affirmed his happiness and commitment to the club amid swirling rumours.

Mikel Arteta has taken a uniquely personal approach to handling transfer speculation, revealing he sat down with William Saliba to directly address the rumours linking the defender with a blockbuster move to Real Madrid.

With stories intensifying that the Spanish giants see Saliba as a marquee signing, Arteta chose to cut through what he called the “noise” by confronting the topic head-on with the player himself.

“I was quite direct with him,” Arteta told reporters on Friday. “When you hear that noise, you can understand people’s expectations. People have feelings, they have been educated in their families, maybe dreaming about something one day. That’s a really natural thing to have.”

The manager’s candid approach was met with a reassuring response. “I sat down with William and asked him that question,” Arteta shared. “He said: ‘No, I want to stay here and play for you, I’m very happy as always.’ That’s great to hear.”

While Arteta declined to name Real Madrid specifically, he acknowledged the calibre of clubs involved, stating, “It was obvious with the amount of the noise… There are not that many who can come and get Willy out from Arsenal and him being happy to discuss it. He was so transparent and honest.”

The conversation appears to be more than just words, as Arsenal are reportedly close to finalizing a new long-term contract with the 24-year-old French international. “That’s what I’m hoping,” Arteta said of a new deal. “Let’s leave the club to announce it when it’s all done.”

Arteta heaped praise on Saliba, describing him as “instrumental” to Arsenal’s success and highlighting his rapid development. “It’s very impressive what he’s done at his age… His consistency, the way he’s progressed… He’s built a partnership with Gabi and the backline that have given the best defensive record in the last three years.”

For now, it seems the “noise” from Madrid has been quieted by a direct conversation and a clear commitment, giving Arsenal fans significant reason for optimism.
