Gunners Boss Refuses to Relax as Unbeaten Side Prepares for “Big London Derby”
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is refusing to let his team rest on their laurels, warning that a significant challenge awaits this Sunday as the league leaders travel to face a resurgent Chelsea.
Despite a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League and a dominant midweek victory over Bayern Munich, Arteta anticipates a fierce battle. He acknowledged Chelsea’s impressive form, which includes a three-match winning streak and a 3-0 thrashing of Barcelona in the Champions League.
“After beating Spurs, we had to make a statement against Bayern Munich, we did that. Now we have to go to the next one,” Arteta told reporters on Friday, emphasizing his team’s relentless focus. “It’s a big game, a big London derby. We’re going to play a really good opponent, they are in really good form.”
Praising Chelsea’s comeback after early-season setbacks, Arteta stated it is no surprise to see them in the title race. “The squad they have assembled, the amount of quality, the manager and the coaching staff they have… it makes sense what has happened. They deserve to be there,” the Spaniard added.
In team news, Arsenal is hopeful that attacker Leandro Trossard will be available after picking up a knock against Bayern. “With Leo, there is another test today,” Arteta said. “It doesn’t look much… There is a potential chance.”
With his squad unbeaten in all competitions since August, Arteta stressed the need to maintain this high level of consistency. “You have to be able to perform in the manner they did individually throughout long periods of the game… That’s very difficult to do,” he said. “Now it’s about evolving the same consistency on Sunday to win again.”
