Aston Villa Star Jhon Duran Joins Al Nassr in £65 Million Move

The young Colombian leaves Villa for a fresh challenge alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League

Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has completed a stunning move to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr in a transfer reportedly worth £65 million. The 21-year-old Colombian, who impressed this season by scoring 12 goals in 29 appearances, will now join a star-studded squad featuring Cristiano Ronaldo.

Only three months ago, Duran had signed a new deal at Villa Park, highlighting his rising value, but increased competition for playing time among Villa’s forwards saw him become a hot property during the January transfer window. Notably, West Ham’s £57 million bid for the forward was rejected, underlining the significant interest in his services.

Duran’s journey at Aston Villa was marked by limited starting opportunities—only seven of his 55 Premier League appearances came as a starter. In his final moments at Villa, he was an unused substitute in the club’s 4-2 UEFA Champions League win over Celtic, a match that ensured their progression to the last 16, and he even took a moment to bid farewell to the fans at the ground.

Prior to the official announcement, the Colombian striker underwent a medical in London on Thursday, signaling that all was in order for his big move. Aston Villa confirmed the transfer on social media, expressing their best wishes for his future. The club’s statement read:

“Aston Villa can confirm that Jhon Duran has joined Al Nassr for an undisclosed fee. Everyone at Aston Villa would like to wish Jhon all the best in the next step of his professional career.”

Duran, who joined Villa from MLS side Chicago Fire in January 2023 for nearly £18 million, now embarks on a new chapter at Al Nassr, where he will have the opportunity to further develop his game alongside some of the world’s top talents.
