Atalanta Forward Reportedly Chooses Spanish Giants Despite Rival Turkish Offer
Atletico Madrid is on the verge of signing Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman in a move that could be finalized as early as Sunday, according to major European transfer reports.
The Nigeria international, a long-term subject of transfer speculation, has now become a concrete target for Diego Simeone’s side. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday that a verbal agreement worth €40 million has been struck between the clubs.
In a social media update, Romano wrote: “Atlético Madrid are closing in on Ademola Lookman deal tonight! The player has informed all parties about his desire to prioritize Atlético proposal despite Fenerbahçe improved salary bid. Verbal agreement on €40m deal. Formal steps expected today then… here we go.”
The report indicates that Lookman has personally steered the move, opting for a new challenge in Spain’s top flight even after Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe presented a more lucrative personal contract.
The 26-year-old winger has been a standout performer for Atalanta over the past two seasons, with his pace and direct style seemingly fitting the demanding, high-intensity profile favored by Atletico Madrid. The potential transfer would mark a significant step in Lookman’s career and provide a fresh attacking option for Simeone as his team prepares for the upcoming season.
