Ayra Starr Becomes Most Streamed Nigerian Artist on Spotify

Musician Tops Global Charts with Hit Songs

Popular musician Sarah Aderibigbe, known as Ayra Starr, has been named the most streamed Nigerian artist worldwide on Spotify.

Phiona Okumu, Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa at Spotify, announced this achievement at a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday, July 10.

According to Okumu, Ayra Starr’s collaboration with Rauw Alejandro, “Santa,” topped the list, with her song “Comma” taking the second spot. Tems’ track “Love Me Jeje” followed in third place.

Other notable tracks include Luciano and Omah Lay’s “Another Vibe” in fourth, and 21 Savage, Burna Boy, and Metro Boomin’s “Just Like Me” in fifth. Tyla and Tems’ “No.1” came in sixth.

Spotify’s global impact list for 2024 highlighted the top 30 Nigerian tracks that have made the biggest waves internationally. Okumu explained, “The list recognizes Nigerian tracks that have had the most listens from outside Nigeria in the first half of 2024 and were released between January 1 and June 30.”

Other top tracks included Usher and Pheelz’s “Ruin” in seventh, Reis B and Tempoe’s “Pretty Girl” in eighth, and TitoM, Yuppe, Burna Boy, and S.N.E’s “Tshwala Bam” in ninth. Ayra Starr and Giveon’s “Last Heartbreak Song” was tenth, Victony’s “Everything” eleventh, Aya Nakamura and Ayra Starr’s “Hype” twelfth, and Tems and J.Cole’s “Free Fall” thirteenth.

“Nigerian music, especially Afrobeats, has captivated global audiences with its infectious rhythms, compelling storytelling, and innovative sound fusions,” Okumu said. “Its ability to transcend cultural and geographical boundaries is truly remarkable. At Spotify, we are thrilled to witness and support the continued evolution of this vibrant scene.”
