Nigerian singer Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has been crowned the leading artist on Spotify’s 2025 Global Impact List, solidifying her status as a powerhouse in the global music scene. The announcement, made by Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu, highlights Ayra Starr’s remarkable influence and the growing international appeal of Nigerian music.
The Global Impact List, which features 30 Nigerian songs with the strongest international connections this year, is a testament to the country’s rising dominance in the global music industry. Ayra Starr leads the charge with six entries, including her hit tracks “Commas,” “GOOD FEELiNGS,” and “Hypé,” as well as collaborations like “Santa” with Rauw Alejandro and Rvssian. Her album The Year I Turned 21 also secured a spot among the top 10 most-streamed albums of the year, further cementing her global presence.
Okumu praised Ayra Starr as a “chart-topping force” reshaping the music landscape, noting her ability to connect with audiences worldwide. “As a Spotify RADAR and EQUAL alumna, Ayra Starr was Nigeria’s most-streamed female artist in 2024,” Okumu said. “Her music has become a global anthem, resonating with listeners across continents.”
The list also features other Nigerian heavyweights, including Burna Boy, Tems, and rising stars like Tyla, showcasing the diversity and richness of the country’s music scene.
