Barcelona Clear Registration Hurdle as Marcus Rashford Set for La Liga Debut

Late financial resolution allows English star to feature against Mallorca after turbulent summer at Camp Nou.

Barcelona have finally registered Marcus Rashford as their latest signing, just in time for the Manchester United loanee to be included in Hansi Flick’s squad for their La Liga opener against Mallorca. The Catalan club, long hampered by financial restrictions, also confirmed the registration of defender João García after weeks of uncertainty.

Flick admitted he was frustrated by the delays, telling reporters on Friday: “I wasn’t happy with the situation, but I always trusted the club to fix it.” The resolution came after a tense standoff involving goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, whose injury status became key to unlocking funds.

La Liga rules allow clubs to temporarily remove 80% of a long-term absentee’s wages from their financial calculations—but only if the player is sidelined for at least four months. Ter Stegen initially complicated matters by publicly stating his back injury would keep him out for just three months, forcing Barcelona into disciplinary talks. A compromise was eventually reached, with the German approving a revised medical report to the league, freeing up crucial salary space.

Rashford, who pushed for the move after losing his place at United under Rúben Amorim, now has a chance to reignite his career in Spain. Barcelona’s financial struggles are far from over—last season, they spent more than they earned, and they needed a special league exemption just to register Dani Olmo earlier this summer. But for now, relief reigns at Camp Nou as their new forward prepares to make his bow.
