Barcelona Eye Marcus Rashford as Lewandowski’s Long-Term Successor

Man Utd Outcast Open to Nou Camp Move Amid Uncertain Future at Old Trafford

Manchester United may be hunting for a new striker this summer, but it’s Barcelona who are now looking towards Old Trafford for a solution to their own attacking dilemma. With Robert Lewandowski turning 36 in August, the Catalan giants are searching for a long-term successor—and have identified Marcus Rashford as a potential candidate.

United have struggled to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2022 departure, but ironically, Barcelona believe the answer to their No. 9 problem could lie within Erik ten Hag’s squad. Rashford, despite primarily being a left winger, has openly expressed his willingness to transition into a central role—a shift that could suit both his ambitions and Barça’s needs.

According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, Barcelona are weighing up a loan move for the England international, though Athletic Club’s Nico Williams remains their primary target. Rashford, who has reportedly made the Blaugrana his preferred destination, is said to be open to adapting his game under new manager Hansi Flick.

“Rashford’s clear preference is Barcelona, and he is willing to play in a more central role in Hansi Flick’s system,” Jacobs revealed. However, any deal faces hurdles—United are demanding £40 million, while Barcelona’s financial constraints could complicate negotiations, particularly given Rashford’s hefty wages.

The 26-year-old has previously thrived as a makeshift striker, and in a recent interview with XBuyer, he hinted at his growing comfort in the role: “As I’ve got older, the No. 9 position is becoming more natural. Playing with my back to goal is easier now, and you’re always in dangerous areas.”

Barcelona’s need for attacking depth was exposed last season after they loaned out young striker Vitor Roque, leaving Lewandowski without a reliable deputy. Rashford’s versatility—capable of playing wide or through the middle—makes him an appealing option, though his inconsistent club form and salary demands remain sticking points.

With new United boss Ruben Amorim reportedly unconvinced by Rashford’s future at the club, a summer exit seems increasingly plausible. But whether Barcelona can structure a deal that satisfies all parties—without breaking the bank—remains to be seen.
