Barcelona’s lead in La Liga took a hit on Sunday as they fell 1-0 to Real Sociedad in a tense match filled with controversy over a disallowed Robert Lewandowski goal. Sheraldo Becker’s decisive strike in the 33rd minute condemned Barcelona to their second league loss of the season, widening the gap between the Catalan giants and league leaders by six points.
The match’s defining moment came when Lewandowski seemed to give Barcelona the lead early on, reacting to a blocked shot and slotting it past the keeper. However, a VAR review deemed him narrowly offside, sparking fierce debate in Spanish media over the technology’s accuracy, as some argued it mistook a defender’s heel for Lewandowski’s boot. The decision left Barcelona stunned and struggling to regain momentum.
Without teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, who missed the game after an ankle injury midweek, Barcelona’s offense lacked its usual spark. For the first time this season, they failed to register a single shot on target, with Real Sociedad’s defense holding firm.
