Barcelona Make Marcus Rashford Their Top Target After Nico Williams Snub

Man Utd Star Open to Camp Nou Move as Catalan Giants Push for Deal

Barcelona have turned their full attention to signing Marcus Rashford after missing out on top target Nico Williams, with the Manchester United forward now emerging as their leading candidate to reinforce the attack.

From Williams to Rashford: Barca’s Shifting Plans

The Catalan club suffered a major setback this week as Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams—their preferred left-wing option—signed a new 10-year contract, ending months of speculation over a Camp Nou switch.

With Liverpool’s Luis Díaz also unlikely to move, Barcelona have now zeroed in on Rashford, despite the England international enduring a difficult 2023/24 season.

Transfer insider Graham Bailey told TBR Football:
“Barcelona have always maintained interest in Rashford alongside Williams. Deco and Hansi Flick are both keen, and with Williams staying put, Rashford’s chances have significantly improved. He can play wide or centrally, which fits their needs perfectly.”

Rashford’s Camp Confident of Move

Despite his struggles last season, Rashford has long been confident about a move to Barcelona. The club has already held talks with United over a potential loan deal, though initial discussions stalled. Fresh contact is expected soon, with the structure of the deal—particularly any obligation to buy—likely to be key.

“The sense from all sides is that he’ll end up at Barcelona,” Bailey added.

Will Financial Issues Block the Deal?

Barcelona’s well-documented financial troubles raised doubts over their ability to register Williams, but Rashford’s move could be more feasible. His lower expected fee (potentially half of Williams’ valuation) and willingness to reduce wages may smooth the path.

United, meanwhile, must decide whether to cash in on a struggling star or back him to rediscover his form. With Erik ten Hag’s future uncertain, Rashford’s next move could hinge on how much the new hierarchy values him.

For now, all signs point to Catalonia—but in a summer full of twists, nothing is guaranteed.
