Gabriel Martinelli
Gunners face summer exodus as La Liga giants target key stars after trophyless season
Arsenal could be set for a painful summer with Barcelona preparing moves for two of their key players. The Gunners, fresh off another trophyless season despite finishing second in the Premier League, now face a fight to keep hold of Gabriel Martinelli and Thomas Partey as the Catalan club looks to capitalize on their frustration.
The Spanish giants have reportedly identified Martinelli as their alternative should they fail to land Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford. But in a fresh twist, The Sun reports Barcelona have also opened talks over a surprise swoop for Partey, whose contract expires this summer. The Ghanaian midfielder, who turns 31 this month, finds himself at a career crossroads with his Arsenal future hanging in the balance.

While Partey has publicly expressed his happiness in London – with his family settled and a strong relationship with Mikel Arteta – contract negotiations have stalled over wage demands. The veteran midfielder, aware this could be his last major deal, is unwilling to accept a significant pay cut. This has opened the door for Barcelona, who have reportedly made the first serious approach, while former club Atletico Madrid and Saudi Pro League sides lurk in the background.
“Thomas respects Arsenal massively and loves living in London,” a source told The Sun, “but he also knows his worth and wants a deal that reflects his standing at the club.”
The potential double departure would deliver a brutal blow to Arteta’s project, coming just weeks after their Premier League near-miss. With Real Madrid also circling defender William Saliba, Arsenal’s hierarchy faces a critical summer – both in retaining their core and convincing fans they can finally bridge the gap to Manchester City.
