Barcelona President Asserts Frenkie de Jong’s Stay Amid Transfer Speculations

Joan Laporta Dismisses Exit Talks as Chelsea, Man City, and Man Utd Linked With Midfielder

Barcelona President Joan Laporta has emphatically stated that Frenkie de Jong will remain at the club, dispelling rumors of a potential summer transfer to Chelsea or other Premier League contenders.

Speculations surrounding de Jong’s future surfaced last month, with Spanish media suggesting a possible move to Stamford Bridge, Manchester City, or Manchester United, with a price tag of £85 million. However, Laporta, in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, clarified that the Dutch midfielder has expressed his desire to stay at Barcelona.

Laporta bluntly affirmed, “The last thing he would want would be to leave Barcelona. He has told me more than once that he is delighted here.”

Despite the financial challenges faced by Barcelona and the need to enhance the squad, Laporta expressed confidence in retaining de Jong’s services. He emphasized the club’s satisfaction with the midfielder and reiterated their commitment to keeping all current players.

“We have margin. We are delighted with him. I’m not worried about anyone, and if someone wants to leave, we can’t go against a player’s will. But I think everyone wants to stay, and we want everyone we have to stay,” Laporta concluded.

With Laporta’s resolute stance, Barcelona aims to maintain stability within the squad as they navigate through the upcoming transfer window, prioritizing player retention amidst ongoing speculation.
